Gulf Shores
Campground
Luxury RV Resort
This is a nice, well run campground. They had a pool that was not heated but it really would not have been a good time of year to enjoy the sun anyway. A nice building for events, but there were only a couple events during our month. November is considered part of the slow season for this whole area.
Things to see
Baldwin County Dog Beach
Little known dog beach (must be on-leash) in the Gulf Shores area. Polly loved it.
Fort Morgan State Historic Site
Great fort to tour to learn the history of the area. Dogs allowed.
Gulf Shores Public Beach
The beach is a beautiful, fine, white sand. The only downfall is that dogs are not allowed on the main beach.
Gulf State Park
This place was the highlight of the area for us. It has miles of paved trails where we ran and biked just about every day. We enjoyed the on-site restaurant and live music. It also has a nice looking campground. Dogs allowed.
Food and Drink
Burro Azul
Just an "ok" place for a little mexican food. Food was a little blah for us.
Island Pancake House
At trivia night, we won a gift certificate for this place and we love our pancakes! It was in a Best Western Inn and very good!
Matt's Homemade Ice Cream
Nothing particularly special about Matt's. It is like most other ice cream shops.
Original Oyster House
Great salad bar! The rest of the food was mediocre.
Tacky Jacks
Decent food, but as we found everywhere in the Gulf Shores, not amazing. Dogs allowed on the patio.
Vallarta Mexican Restaurant
A quick stop as Barb came to pick Mark up from the Pensacola Airport. It was "ok".
Woodside Restaurant
The state park that is just across the road, where we did most of our trail running, also has a little restaurant. They have live music quite often so we went over to listen and have a little lunch.
Zeke's Landing
A very good seafood restaurant and, like a lot of places this time of year, we were one of maybe three customers.
To make a long story short ...
Tom and Kevin
You may remember us meeting Kevin Charles (Fuhs) and his wife Brenda in Corpus Christi TX just about a year ago. He is a professional musician with a great history and so many stories. I have kept in touch with Kevin and we figured out that we would both be in Gulf Shores at the same time, albeit at different resorts. As it turns out, their resort and ours are owned by the same people! The two resorts are only 5 miles apart. So I got to see him a couple of times and he came over to do a little jam night with a fellow camper named Tom Halpin.
Tom Halpin and his wife Marcia saw or website and contacted us. Tom has also been a professional musician, playing and working at Disney World for a couple of decades! He taught guitar for a long time also. In addition to the jam night that Kevin joined us for, Tom and I played for the Thanksgiving gathering at the resort.
Wonderful people.
Harrison's First Birthday
While in Gulf Shores, Mark flew to Baltimore to celebrate Harrison's first birthday. He is such a cutie and fun to play with! Breanna and Kyle are doing a wonderful job with him.
Here are some pictures from the party - Photos
Kyle's parents, Gene and Candi, were there too and we all went to Ellicott City to one of Breanna's and Kyle's favorite places to eat.
The restaurant was the Manor Hill Tavern - Photos
We stopped into a fantastic candy store, E. C. Pops - Photos
The city itself is beautiful and historic - Photos
