Harpers Ferry
Campground
Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields KOA Holiday
This is a great campground with easy access to Harpers Ferry National Historical Park. A short 1/2 mile walk and you can ride the free bus (national park pass is required) to downtown Harpers Ferry. The campground has a lot of activities for kids (indoor basketball court, playground, large pool, jumping pillow, etc.). It filled up both weekends we were there and then was quieter during the week. Bonus...there is a coffee bar on-site! The sites were a little tight and the big rigs had issues with maneuvering into them.
Things to see
Harpers Ferry National Historical Park
We had no clue that downtown Harpers Ferry is actually all a national park. There were restaurants, shops, historical buildings, and trailheads from downtown. If you have a national park pass, you can park at the park headquarters and ride the free bus to the downtown area. It was very convenient. The downtown area is dog friendly but they are not allowed on the bus.

Food and Drink
El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant
A very nice restaurant for our weekly Tuesday Mexican food fix.
Mi Degollado Mexican Restaurant
A very colorfully decorated restaurant that didn't overshadow the fact that their food is fantastic.
White Horse Tavern
A nice tavern/restaurant attached to a hotel just a quick walk through the woods from the KOA. They have live music every weekend. There is an outdoor patio but it can get quite hot so they tend to have the music indoor.
To make a long story short ...
Hey, let's meet in West Virginia!
We were close enough to where our daughter and husband live (outside Baltimore) that they came to wander around Harper's Ferry with us one day. As it turns out, some friends from Prescott WI were out here visiting their relatives too AT THE SAME TIME! Breanna went to high school with one of the young ladies and was able to spend a little time with her. We were all so busy hiking around that we barely ran across each other.
