Replace bed pedestal due to mold

Our Fuzion 429 has a queen size mattress on top of a pedestal in the primary bedroom, which is in the nose.  The pedestal is great for storing things and has a hinged piece of plywood that lets you flip up the mattress to gain access.

Here's the problem.  The mattress rests directly on top of the plywood with NO ventilation.  We were cleaning one day and flipped up the mattress and there was black mold all over the mattress cover.  Thankfully, we had that cover!

Sure, a person could drill a bunch of holes in the plywood or figure out some way to put something between the mattress and the plywood to let air get through.  I didn't like any of those solutions.

So we just purchased a simple residential tubular bed frame and used that.  The only difficulty was that the head of the old pedestal was up on a short rise.  You can see that in the first pic.  Easy-enough solution to just cut off the metal frame's legs on that end.

The metal frame does not enclose and hide whatever you're storing under there but we don't care.  The blankets and comforters hang over the edges of the bed anyway and conceal what's under there anyway.  Plus, it is much easier to get things out from under there!  No need to lift up the whole mattress end!
