Memphis
Campground
Graceland RV Resort & Campground
The campground was clean, safe and right next to Graceland. Polly enjoyed playing fetch in the large grassy area within the RV park. There was also a small pool and nice pavilion.
Things to see
Beale Street
A must do while in Memphis. We went twice during the week we were there. We went on a weekend and it was much quieter than we expected. We enjoyed listening to the music, people watching, food, and an adult beverage or two. If you listen to the lyrics to Marc Cohn's "Walking In Memphis", you'll recognize so many references! Ten feet off of Beale, the gates of Graceland, the Jungle Room, Union Ave, etc.
Graceland
We took the tour of the Graceland mansion, museum, and jets. It is definitely worth seeing and reading the history behind Elvis and his rise to fame. One of our favorite stories was that Elvis would put a siren on his car and then pull people over in front of the mansion. He would lecture them on safe driving and then sign autographs.
National Civil Rights Museum
We toured the museum and visited room 306 in the Lorraine Motel, where MLK was assassinated. There is a plethora of information and displays ranging from slavery to modern day struggles. We had just read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" so it was a timely visit.
Sun Studios
We took the tour of Sun Studios and learned about the studio's history, the iconic performers that recorded there, and the fact that it is still an active recording studio.
Hiking
Big River Crossing
Easy walk, run, or bike on a paved path across the river and back. There are great views of Memphis along the path. There is also a path to downtown, with several parks along the way; however, there was construction at the time we were there so that part of the path was closed.
Food and Drink
Ghost River Brewing Co.
Great place to stop for a beer and live music. They have a very nice outdoor patio area where the music is played.
