Denver
Campground
Denver West / Central City KOA Holiday
You're definitely at altitude at this campground! Beautiful views all around. Spacious sites for big rigs like ours.
Things to see
Independence Pass
After our hike near Aspen, we headed up to Independence Pass. Ron was a tour guide of snowmobile riders up there. During peak snow levels, the pass is closed for auto traffic.
The Sasquatch Store
Seriously, how could you NOT stop in here? It is immediately off I-70 west of Denver when you turn off to Blackhawk and Central City.
Hiking
Crater Lake Trail
Beautiful hike in the Maroon Bells Snowmass Wilderness near Aspen, CO. Unless you arrive before 8 AM, you are required to park on the bottom and they shuttle you to the trailhead. Crater Lake was almost dry but the views of the Maroon Bells (one of the most photographed peaks in the U.S.) were amazing. We met a very friendly fox along the trail. Polly really wanted to be friends! On the ride up, you can see several "scars" on the hillsides where avalanches ripped down the mountain. Dogs allowed.
Maryland Mountain
Probably a better trail for mountain biking and there are a lot of mountain bike trails accessible via the trail head. Unfortunately, we didn't have our mountain bikes yet. Dogs allowed.
Motorcycling
Peak-to-Peak Highway
This is such a beautiful ride from Black Hawk to Nederland. We stopped in Nederland for lunch at "The Train Cars Coffee & Yogurt Co".
