Sedona

Campground

Verde Ranch RV Resort

A very nice resort with newly constructed buildings, pool, hot tubs, pickleball courts, playgrounds, trails, workout room, clubhouse, game room, pool table, business center.  Mark played in the clubhouse for great crowd!  We had two sets of visitors here too!

Things to see

Gold King Mine & Ghost Town

I don't know when I've seen more mining equipment in my life!  Plus TONS of old trucks, construction machinery, old washing machines - just too much to say - look at the pics!

Photos

Jerome

Very touristy little town with great views down the valley.  Shops, restaurants, tours.  A great place to spend the day.  Lots of history in this little town!

Photos

Montezuma Castle

It wasn't a castle and it had nothing to do with Montezuma.  An ancient cliff dwelling that is definitely worth a visit.

Photos

Montezuma Well

Another fascinating place that had nothing to do with Montezuma.  This naturally-fed pond was another place where the ancients thrived.  They constructed miles of irrigation ditches.

Photos

Old Cottonwood

Apparently, not too many years back, Cottonwood was quite the "meth" area.  A variety of business leaders put effort into changing that and created a very quaint downtown with shops and restaurants.

Photos

Sedona

There is so much to see and do here.  A seemingly endless list of hikes and spectacular views everywhere you look.  The town itself is very touristy and upscale.  Don't forget to get your aura recharged!

Photos

Verde Canyon Railroad

A very scenic ride through a beautiful valley on a series of train cars.  Go outside and enjoy the view or relax in the cars and have some wonderful snacks.

Hiking

Bell Trail

This trail is not to be confused with the Bell Rock Trail (which is much shorter and easier).  This was a 7 mile hike along Wet Beaver Creek to a beautiful swimming hole.  Well worth the hike!  Dogs allowed.

Boynton Canyon

Great hike with a beautiful window view at the end.  Dogs allowed.

Brins Mesa Trail

Good hike with beautiful overlooks of the area.  Dogs allowed.

Cibola Pass Trail

Easy trail to get to the Seven Sacred Pools.  Dogs allowed.

Devil's Bridge

The hike was beautiful and the wait to actually get on the "bridge" was LONG.  As you might expect, everyone wanted pics on the bridge with just their friends and family so we all queued up.  Totally fine, just took a long time.  The bridge itself is wide enough to not be too scared but the fall would NOT have been good.  Dogs allowed.

Hangover Trail

This was a long but great hike.  There was some climbing over large boulders but the view was worth it.  Also, bikes use this trail and it can get very dicey so pay attention and get ready to move out of the way.  Dogs allowed.

Little Horse Trail

Easy hike to a good overlook.  Unfortunately, there were several off-road vehicles and Jeeps at the end so it did take away from the scenery just a little.  Dogs allowed.

Long Canyon Trail to Birthing Cave

Very easy hike to a cool cave.  Legend has it that natives brought women here when they were ready to give birth.  The cave certainly looks like a birthing canal!  Dogs allowed.

Oak Creek Canyon

This was one of our longer and more fun hikes.  Dozens of stream crossings, vertical cliffs, a little bit of snow!

Seven Sacred Pools via Cibola Pass Trail

Um, sacred?  Okay, there are seven little bowl-like depressions in the sandstone that water can collect in and they overflow from one to another.  You can't go wrong with any hike in the Sedona area, but sacred and special?  I guess I didn't feel my aura.  Dogs allowed.

Sidewinder and Ocotillo Trail Loop

We did these trails on our way back from Phoenix after picking up guests at the airport.  Easy trail that allowed them to stretch their legs after a long flight.  Dogs allowed.

Soldier Pass Cave Trail

Another beautiful trail that offers amazing views and a cave.  Dogs allowed.

Biking

Blowout Canyon

"Mingus Avenue Trailhead" is where all these trails launch from.  There are many miles of trails for all riding capabilities.

Food and Drink

Adriana's Mexican Restaurant

We went twice!  Adrianna was such a fun person to talk to.  Fantastic food and her attention to customers is amazing.

Photos

Black Cow Cafe

A quick stop for some dessert as we walked around Sedona.  SO GOOD!

Photos

Don Diego

A nice Mexican restaurant with seating outside on the wide sidewalk.  Good food and great people watching.

Photos

El Toreo

Ended up going here twice also.  Inside and outside dining and good food.

Photos

Haunted Hamburger

A unique place in Jerome with great burgers.  Watch out for the skeletons!  Outdoor dining with a great view of the valley.

Photos

Hideaway House

Another fantastic restaurant in Sedona with outdoor dining that gives great views of the multi-colored geography.

Photos

La Casita

Cute little place in Camp Verde.  Good food and margaritas.  We had Polly so had to sit outside.  In order to get to the outdoor patio, we had to walk around the back of the building past a very large dog that was on a chain but very interested in Polly.  Not the most convenient path.

Photos

La Fonda

A family-owned and run mainstay of the Camp Verde area.  Nothing to write home about but it fulfilled out Tuesday mexican food tradition.

Photos

Pizzeria Bocce

Great vibe in this place.  In the Old Cottonwood district.  Great food and drinks.

Photos

Verde Brewing Company

A very nice brewery just a couple miles from the resort.  One of the owners came to the resort for a tasting and we just had to go check out the brewery.  Stopped in a couple of times for simple foods and really good beers.
