San Antonio / Alamo KOA Holiday
A very well maintained KOA, standards you can expect. Being right next to a paved city trail (Salado Creek Greenway) that extends for many miles was a definite plus for us since we like to get out there and run (with Polly) and bike. The on-site cafe was also a nice change - we enjoyed breakfast and dinner there a couple of times. The cafe is joined with the very large event center. Let's just call it a barn. We were there over Veteran's Day and they had a wonderful presentation. This is also where Mark was able to play music a couple of times.
Things to see
Japanese Tea Garden
One would not have expected to see something this beautiful in San Antonio, but here it is. It really is an escape from the city. There were many people taking Prom and Graduation pictures here. Dog friendly!
Largest Wooden Nickel
What else is there to say?! When looking for things to do, always have a look at what Atlas Obscura has to say.
Natural Bridge Caverns
We've been to cavern tours before and didn't go here for the tour. We actually went here to experience the "ropes course". It was very fun!
Riverwalk
Much has been written about the riverwalk area. There are many shops and restaurants to experience. It is quite spectacular. We took a narrated boat tour and really enjoyed it. We were a little disappointed that the lights strung in the trees were not lit at night. Dog friendly!
The Alamo
Texas draws a lot of symbolic pride from what happened at the Alamo. Be careful what you believe! The events may have been embellished, or at least skewed, by the Texan point of view. Fun fact, Phil Collins (Genesis and solo pop performer from the 70s on) took a huge interest in the events of the Alamo and has quite a collection of artifacts.
